About Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in the Chinese calendar, a roughly two-week celebration that begins with the new moon in late January or February and brings the largest annual human migration on earth as families reunite. Streets and homes turn red and gold, lion and dragon dances ward off bad luck, fireworks banish evil spirits, and elders give red envelopes of money. Each year is named for one of twelve zodiac animals. Cities across China and the diaspora glow — expect crowds, closures and unforgettable spectacle.
