Inti Raymi

🇵🇪 Cusco, Peru

About Inti Raymi

Inti Raymi, the Inca Festival of the Sun, is reenacted each 24 June in Cusco, Peru, reviving a ceremony once held by the Inca empire to honour the sun god Inti at the winter solstice. Hundreds of costumed performers process from the Qorikancha temple to the fortress of Sacsayhuamán above the city for a dramatic staged rite. It is both a serious cultural revival and a magnificent spectacle set among Andean ruins. Cusco, gateway to Machu Picchu, is spectacular in itself — allow time to acclimatise to the altitude.
