About Galway Oyster

The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, running since 1954, claims to be the world's oldest oyster festival and fills a long September weekend on Ireland's Atlantic west coast with shucking championships, seafood, live music and a great deal of Guinness. The famous native Galway oyster is the star, best washed down with a cold stout in a marquee by the bay. It is a warm, boozy, thoroughly Irish celebration of the sea's harvest. Galway's pubs and trad-music scene keep the party going long after the last oyster.
