About Naadam
Naadam is Mongolia's national festival, held each July and rooted in the warrior traditions of the steppe, centred on the 'three manly games' of wrestling, horse racing and archery (women now compete in archery and the child jockeys' races). In Ulaanbaatar a colourful opening ceremony fills the stadium, but the festival is at its most authentic in the countryside, where communities gather across the grasslands. It offers a rare window into nomadic culture and national pride. Pair it with a few days in a ger camp on the open steppe.
