About Pingxi Lantern
The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival fills the hills of northern Taiwan with hundreds of glowing lanterns each Lunar New Year, when people write wishes on paper lanterns and release them into the night from the old railway town of Pingxi. Rooted in a history of using lanterns as signals, it has become one of Asia's most beautiful and accessible lantern events. The sight of the lit sky reflected in upturned faces is unforgettable. It is an easy day trip from Taipei, and you can release your own lantern.
“Wishes rising into the Taiwanese hills on a thousand lanterns. Accessible and lovely.”
