About Pushkar Camel Fair
The Pushkar Camel Fair is one of the world's largest livestock gatherings, drawing tens of thousands of camels, horses and cattle — and the traders, pilgrims and tourists who follow them — to the Rajasthani desert town of Pushkar each November. Beyond the trading it becomes a swirling carnival of moustache contests, camel races, folk music and Ferris wheels, set against sand dunes and one of Hinduism's holiest lakes. It is a photographer's paradise and a vivid slice of rural Indian life. Go early in the fair for the animals, and stay for the spectacle.
“Camels, dunes and swirling desert colour. A photographer's dream and a vivid slice of India.”
