About Boryeong Mud
The Boryeong Mud Festival began as a marketing event for the region's mineral-rich cosmetic mud and has grown into one of South Korea's most popular summer parties, drawing millions to the beach town each July. Visitors wallow in mud pools, slide down mud chutes, wrestle and coat themselves head to toe, all supposedly to the benefit of their skin, before rinsing off in the Yellow Sea. Evenings bring live music and fireworks over the beach. It is gloriously silly, genuinely fun, and best enjoyed with zero regard for staying clean.
“Gloriously silly and genuinely good for the skin. Come for the mud, stay for the fireworks.”
