About La Tomatina
La Tomatina is the world's biggest food fight, held on the last Wednesday of August in the Valencian town of Buñol, when tens of thousands of people pelt one another with over a hundred tonnes of overripe tomatoes for one gloriously messy hour. There is no deeper meaning — it began as a spontaneous scuffle in the 1940s and simply stuck. The signal is a ham greased to the top of a pole; the finish leaves the streets running red. Wear goggles and clothes you'll throw away, and expect an hour of pure, pointless joy.
